The Duisburg police have reported a major blow to child abuse on the Internet in six federal states. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate and Schleswig-Holstein, a total of seven search warrants and six arrest warrants were executed and extensive evidence was secured, the authority announced. The police and public prosecutor's office will announce details at a press conference in Duisburg next Tuesday.

The basis is an investigation by the Central Cybercrime Contact Point (ZAC) North Rhine-Westphalia in Cologne against the people behind a darknet platform, it said. Special forces, IT experts and data carrier sniffer dogs were also involved in the major operation at the end of September. The Duisburg police led the operation.

In addition to the head of the ZAC, Markus Hartmann, the responsible NRW ministers Benjamin Limbach (Justice, Greens) and Herbert Reul (Interior, CDU) will also take part in the press conference.
